NRMA holiday accommodation network unveils many EV chargers for guest & public use

I love going on electric car driving holidays and prefer to stay at accommodation where I can charge my car onsite at their destination charger.

So it’s great to hear that NRMA Parks and Resorts is now publicising their Chargefox electric vehicle AC chargers for visitors and the public at holiday parks and resorts throughout NSW, Queensland, Victoria and South Australia.

As an example last year I went on a family holiday to NRMA Ocean Beach Umina Holiday Resort while test driving a Kia EV6 Air.

Having my own 7 metre Type 2 to Type 2 cable and access to a shared EV charger onsite at my holiday accommodation saved time and money each evening after a days driving, compared to visiting a nearby expensive fast DC charger instead.

From Atherton Tablelands Holiday Park in Far North Queensland to Victor Harbor in South Australia, there are now more than 20 NRMA holiday parks and resorts with EV chargers either in front of cabins, or in communal areas.

Paying guests can arrive, plug in and charge up for free if they’ve booked a cabin with a dedicated EV charger or for a fee/kWh if using shared EV chargers.

Providing an optimal travel experience for EV owners is high on NRMA’s agenda, so their shared chargers can also be accessed by the public for a fee from 10am to 4pm.

As you can see in the example below pricing is based on time of day and is quite reasonable.

Most of the EV chargers have a top charge rate of 22kW. Since EV’s sold in Australia rarely support 22kW AC charging your actual charging rate will be determined by your electric cars maximum AC charge rate limit, usually 6.6 / 7 / 10.5 or 11kW.

if you’re booking accommodation at an NRMA Parks and Resorts location you can do that via their website if you plan on using a shared AC EV charger on site. However you need to book over the phone if you want to have a cabin with a dedicated EV charger just for your electric car.

  1. Only one in SA, but it’s a good one with 22kw at Victor, which is a really nice park to stay at!
