Australian and Kiwi owners of MG4 electric cars are speculating about whether the Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) feature of their car will be improved soon.
This discussion was sparked by a comment that MG UK made to consumer advocate organisation WHICH:
“We are aware of some inconsistencies relating to the lane-departure warning system which can make the system oversensitive under certain conditions”.
“We have been working on a continuous improvement programme with the supplier and the relevant regulatory authorities”.
“This has resulted in an improved calibration of the ADAS systems, which we are close to having approved. Once this has been completed, we will implement it as a full software upgrade at no expense to the customer.”
“If a customer does feel this function is oversensitive in its current calibration it can be turned off via the touchscreen menu, but we would reiterate that we have had no safety-related reports from customers”.
“A software solution to resolve the issue is very near to completion and the MG dealer network will perform the work at no cost to the customer.”
AUK MG4 owner claimed to have received this message from MG UK:
I asked an MG Australia spokesperson to comment on MG4 Lane Keeping Assist and they advised that their team is working on an update but please be patient because all MG software updates are separately tested and calibrated in each country (UK, AUS, NZ etc) on a variety of roads (city, highway and rural etc) before being made available to customers.
So at present there is no ETA on an update to improve Australian and NZ MG4 Lane Keeping Assist functionality and it is very unlikely to be available during July/August here.
I would expect an update to be a few months away at best considering the MG Australia team are rumoured to be currently planning launches for a new version of the ZS (Petrol and EV), new Cyberster (EV), new HS (petrol) and have just launched the new MG3 (petrol).
